Five Talents is the microfinance development initiative of the worldwide Anglican church. The church provides a ready made infrastructure – a physical presence of people and premises at the heart of even the remotest communities. This makes Five Talents programmes both effective in their ability to reach local communities and highly efficient. The majority of staff are recruited, trained and employed locally in the individual projects to help administer the programmes. The UK office started in October 2005. Five Talents is currently supporting twelve micro-loan programmes on three continents. The total number of loan clients is now around 20,000, of whom two-thirds are women entrepreneurs. Each loan reaches more than the individual entrepreneur: including the families of the entrepreneur and the families of their employees means that each loan typically impacts 20 lives. Our target is to reach at least 70,000 loan-clients by the end of 2012, impacting one million people through job creation and family livelihoods. |
