Page, who found fame as Stacey with the British BAFTA award-winning comedy Gavin & Stacey, promises to be a hands on ambassador for the veterinary charity... that provides 2.4 million treatments, and more than 420,000 preventive treatments to animals in a year.
The actress, who is about to seen in new comedy film Nativity 2 – the Second Coming, says she plans to be active in her fundraising role for the PDSA charity, which is seeking to raise £6 million to upgrade its pet hospitals in Plymouth, Birmingham and Cardiff.
The charity says its trio of hospitals are no longer sustainable in their current condition and the layouts make it especially difficult for the vets to cope with the demand on their services... The animal hospitals also need new equipment...
"The charity desperately needs to build new hospitals and, as one of these will be in my home country, and because I am probably one of the biggest animal lovers in the world, I want to do all I can to support the charity's amazing work," explained Page...
The actress says she always wanted to work with animals and is planning to visit the PDSA hospital in Cardiff to find out more about the work of the charity.
The PDSA says it is currently experiencing an unprecedented rise in demand for its services with its PetAid hospitals treating more than 150 animals a day...which is putting huge strain on resources.
To help out Page says she has plenty of fundraising ideas for the charity planned, including a ‘trek to Peru’ and has described the opportunity to become an ambassador for the charity as a "great honour..."
The PDSA charity has been running for 95 years and operates 50 pet hospitals across the UK employing 286 veterinary surgeons...
