ALFIE BOE: Blackpool charity appeal
07/08/2012 by Alan Cole in the UK

Alfie Boe supports Blackpool hospitals fundraising campaign

World famous tenor Alfie Boe is staying in touch with his roots by backing a hometown hospital appeal...

The acclaimed singer was back on the Fylde Coast last weekend in the North West of England for the Lytham Proms where he announced he has become the latest big name backer of Trust charity Blue Skies Hospitals Fund’s Going for Gold Appeal...

The appeal has been inspired by the London Olympics and wants to provide high standards of care for the patients of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust...

The English tenor who hails from the famous seaside town of Blackpool, says: "I think it's important to support local hospital charities because hospitals are for the community...

"I still have a close link to the Fylde Coast because my family is still here,” the Les Mis singer added..."

The Going for Gold campaign was launched last week by Dancing on Ice star, Daniel Whiston, a gold medallist ice skater...

The Olympic champion's sister is a vascular nurse at Victoria Hospital in Blackpool...

The appeal's fundraising manager, Kathy Ancell, is urging the community to also get behind the charity campaign....

"The aim of our Going for Gold Appeal is to raise unrestricted income for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund which will allow us to respond to wherever the need is greatest at the time..." she says...

Organisers want the public to take part in community fundraising events and are actively encouraging individuals and organisations to get involved.

The Blue Skies Hospitals Fund is also organising fundraiser events throughout 2012... which will now hopefully benefit from the association of Boe, one of the area's famous sons...

The charity for Blackpool teaching hospitals has proven itself a successful fundraising organisation in the past. It recently raised £168,000 towards a new £300,000 Clinical Research Centre that opened last month...
