TROPICAL DISEASE: Elimination
15/08/2012 by Alan Cole in the UK

Growing support for END7 campaign that wants to say goodbye to horrible tropical diseases

High profile supporters continue to spread the word to end the world's most terrible tropical diseases...

The charity campaign group END7 is celebrating progress in its fight to end seven of the most treatable and yet devastating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) that infect more than one billion people worldwide...

Supporters of END7 include Katy Perry, Slash, Leila Lopes, Bill Nighy, Ewan McGregor, Tom Felton, Stella McCartney, Alyssa Milano, Danny DeVito, Amos Lee, Norah Jones, MC Hammer, Aaron Neville, The Kooks, Rosanne Cash and many others who have been actively supporting the END7 campaign via social media, etc...

END7, a campaign of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, has been developing momentum over the last year and is now building up greater awareness of the horrible effects of NTDs and how they are easily treatable with an affordable package of pills that are both a treatment and prevention method...

The diseases, including trachoma, elephantiasis, snail fever, river blindness and roundworm, disproportionally impact those living in poverty and can lead to blindness and physical disability harming long-term life prospects...

NTDs affect more than 500 million children...

The scale of these parasite based and bacterial born infections is a global health scandal...

However, the END7 campaign raises funds and public awareness about the simple and inexpensive treatments that are available to tackle these tropical diseases...

If these campaigns are sufficiently invested in, then they could release millions of people from suffering across the world...

"The world is now paying attention to these diseases and making progress in unprecedented ways, with ambitious goals, excellent interventions, and growing evidence of multiple benefits for health..." Director-General of the World Health Organisation Dr Margaret Chan has said...

It costs just 50 cents to protect one person for an entire year against all seven of the most common NTDs... What's more, 100 per cent of donations to END7 go straight to treatment programmes in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean...
