SOCIAL MEDIA: Freedom Works 4 million
08/01/2013 by Alan Cole in the UK

Libertarian non-profit continues soaring up social media rankings but still way to go to surpass Lady Gaga

An organisation that promotes economic freedoms including voluntary charity giving is continuing to storm the social media non-profit ratings...

The libertarian non-profit FreedomWorks, that opposes authoritarian controls and celebrates community values, has reached over 4 million likes on Facebook this week, the main social media network...

The campaigning non-profit group continues to attract thousands of new likes a day...

It currently has 4,051,287 likes followed by the next significant not-for-profit at 3,069,156 likes, the campaigning humanitarian non-profit Invisible Children...

The highest ranking recognisable charity in terms of the most Facebook likes is still UNICEF, the children’s charity at 2,353,231 likes...

FreedomWorks, the conservative libertarian org believes that big centralised government leads to bad government, and an erosion of civil liberties...

America’s national debt is currently over $16 trillion...

The non-profit has been encouraging taxpayers to sign a petition to reject tax hikes.

President of FreedomWorks, Matt Kibbe, recently commented that: “Washington has a spending problem, not a tax shortage...”

The non-profit’s social media campaigning has been partly successful due to its large grass-roots following, but also its clear communications and direct appeals via the web to an ever wider supporter base...

Around the New Year the non-profit made a peak of about 6,000 new likes a day.

However, the organisation still has some way to go before it reaches the levels enjoyed by pop stars such as Lady Gaga, who currently has just under 55 million likes on Facebook...

Lady Gaga has been attracting up to 27,000 new likes a day during the festive period...

In contrast to FreedomWorks' appeal for tax cuts, Lady Gaga is using her social media profile to promote her Born This Way Ball tour...

The tour is being presented, along with associated charity auctions, with a portion of proceeds benefiting her Born This Way non-profit foundation.

The Born This Way Foundation promotes tolerance and diversity and seeks to empower youth to be active citizens...
