Matthew Loddy is running 100 marathons in 100 days for charity, starting in Lagos and ending with the London Marathon. The epic fundraising challenge is set to begin on January 14 with the super fit amateur athlete setting off from Lagos in the Algarve, Portugal with the intention of running over 2,600 miles, eventually ending up in London in a 100 days.
The Portugal to England challenge will see the runner set off across the stunning coast of southern Portugal before heading across northern Spain, over the Pyrenees, via France, before - it gets even better - running through the channel tunnel and onto the British capital.
The mindboggling achievement will see Mr Loddy run a marathon a day ending up at the Virgin London Marathon, all in aid of charity.
Mr Loddy, managing director of Framework Scaffolding Contractors in Berkhamsted, England, hopes to raise £100,000 for his charity Framework Foundation. Teenage Cancer Trust is the charity's major beneficiary.
The idea for the charity was inspired by his friend Phil Latham who died from stomach cancer in April 2010, aged 36.
In his final weeks of training the endurance runner has been running two marathons a week to get in shape.
The epic fundraising challenge has been receiving a mass of interest from supporters online and especially social media, many of whom are simply astounded by what he is setting out to achieve.
As well as inviting sponsorship Mr Loddy has also welcomed people to run their own sponsorship campaigns - and either run a marathon with him along the way or just part of the way, or simply turn out to offer encouragement and spur him on...
A number of celebrity supporters have already committed to taking part in the event, including Eastenders star Steve McFadden who has said he will turn out on his bike.
Celebrity endorsers also include Alex Best, Linford Christie, Chris Tarrant, Gillian McKeith and more...
